Münchausen Syndrome

Who's Who in the Munchausen Story - II

The Psychiatrist
The Munchausen Syndrome was a label given by English psychiatrist, Richard Asher, in an article in the Lancet (1951) to patients who invent for themselves medical and surgical conditions. A famous case was the American, a certain Mr Kilroy of Kilroy-was-here fame, who it is believed died in a Dublin psychiatric hospital some years ago while playing one of his favourite parts - a heart attack. Also there is the fictitious Jeremy Celestine Brightside, an actor, but God knows where he is today.
